FIBROMYALGIA is a condition which causes chronic pain across the body. Treatment focuses on relieving the symptoms, as there is no known cure. The condition can be caused by several different events.
Fibromyalgia can be triggered by a variety of lifestyle factors, some emotional.
It is a chronic condition which causes pain across the body and sleepless nights.
“The exact cause is unknown, but it’s likely that a number of factors are involved,” said the NHS on its website.
Arthritis Research UK suggests that as many as one in every 25 people suffer from the condition.
The painful condition can be triggered by many factors, including viral infections, according to the NHS.
“Fibromyalgia is often triggered by a stressful event, including physical stress or emotional (psychological) stress,” says the national healthcare provider online.
“Possible triggers include an injury, a viral infection and giving birth.”
The NHS adds that emotional events can also cause fibromyalgia such as the breakdown of a relationship, being in an abusive relationship or the death of a loved one.
Having an operation can also trigger the condition.
However, the NHS adds, “in some cases, fibromyalgia doesn’t develop after any obvious trigger.”
Arthritis Research UK says that we don’t yet know the exact cause of fibromyalgia.
“People with the condition quite often report that their symptoms started after an illness or accident, or following a period of emotional stress and anxiety,” says Arthritis Research on its website.
“However, others can’t recall any particular event leading up to the onset of symptoms.”
“Not surprisingly, a combination of pain, sleep disturbance and anxiety or depression can turn into a vicious circle.”
You could soothe fibromyalgia pain for free by soaking hands and feet in hot water for a few minutes.
Although exercise is commonly prescribed to treat fibromyalgia pain, there are a number of other activities you can do to treat symptoms.
“The best way to cope with fibromyalgia is to use a number of techniques that ease the symptoms as much as possible,” says Fibromyalgia UK.
“Relaxation is one technique that works really well for almost everybody with fibromyalgia. It reduces tension in the mind and body right away.
Placing your hands and feet in a kitchen bowl of hot water for a few minutes can help to ease aching. You can use hot water from the tap and any bowl in the kitchen cupboard to do this.
